Surviving Job Loss
Have you been laid off recently? Did you lose your job suddenly and you are now wondering what went wrong? You are probably still in state of denial or are starting to get mad at your former boss or the whole organization.
Fact is retrenchment can happen anytime and is highly probable during recession. In hard times like this, companies need to implement drastic measures to stay viable or at least to survive. Contrary to what many believe, the welfare of the employees will come only secondary or lower in the hierarchy of priorities by higher management. Survival of the company and therefore the higher management survival still come first. That is the fact of your life.
So what do you do now and how do you survive this job loss? You can continue to speculate and ponder on what really caused your job loss. Is it your occasional tendency to procrastinate? Is it your disagreement with your boss on some decisions? Is it your temper or is it your looks? You can debate forever, but it’s not going to help you move on. The best way to do now is to think that there is really nothing personal about what had happened to you and that your worth as a dignified employee has never diminished. Nobody can take this perception away from you. Only you can ruin your perception about yourself.
It is now time to accept the reality, pick up a couple of lessons you learned from the experience and then get ready for the future. It is now time to get ready for the next job, to expand your network of friends, pick up new skills or even enrol on a new course to propel you to the next job that you will enjoy. More importantly, now that you are out of job, it is time to reflect on your inner self and the deeper things that get you motivated. Take this opportunity to spend more quality time with your loved ones, while you are still preparing for the next exciting job. Don’t forget your physical fitness as well, as it comes with mental fitness.
Good luck to your new journey. All the best!
